Spring Break 2022

Dear Kiddos,
Life is a whirl wind these days. It's super busy, I'm exhausted by the end of the day, but I wouldn't have it any other way.  As they say, pura vida!

Hailey, after a few more failed impromptu experimental culinary attempts, you are starting to give recipes a little more trust these days. You sometimes will go and find a cookbook, turn to a page (almost always a sweet) and say you want to make it. Sometimes, like in the picture below, I give in and we make something like a chinese doughnut.

Hailey, I'm also teaching at your preschool. I have my own class that I co-teach with another teacher, I also help out other teachers who don't have an assistant in the class to take kids to the potty. When I go into your class, you always run to me with a great big hug, which I love so much, of course.
Nathan, spring baseball is up and running. You have 2 practices a week and 2 games a week, mostly happening around dinner time. We've had to adjust dinner time, sometimes having to split up for dinner, but we are making it work. Your team seems a bit more mature and you've told me that you really enjoy your team mates this year.

Hailey, you have been into creating things lately. You must have caught the bug that Hannah had: the keep all the recyclable stuff to make random things bug. Here, you are modeling a purse that you made and decorated all by yourself.

Spring Break

So for spring break, we decided to do a little stay-cation in San Antonio. We ended up vacationing with another family that lives up the street from us and we had a great time. We decided to be cool moms and made the San Antonio trip a real kid version of the Amazing Race, with clues, and everything!

The first clue: Complete this puzzle to reveal the location of our first pit stop.

We drove down and visited the Alamo first. Spring break crowds were a bit crazy, but that didn't stop us from walking around the grounds to find answers to a few trivia questions that we had prepared beforehand.

After the Alamo, we followed the clues given by the doctor, which brought us to our second pit stop: lunch.
Lunch was a german-texan restaurant. We were lucky enough to sit in the "trophy room" since our party was so big. Seems like a large party is the way to travel during spring break.

After lunch, the kids were given a challenge to find things of various lengths along the riverwalk.
It ended up being a fun activity to keep them semi-occupied as we waited in line to get on the riverwalk cruise.

Finally, we made it on the boat. The tour guide took us around the aquaducts, spouting out information about the stars who made an impact in the area and occasionally, would talk about the history and architecture.

After the tour, you guys were given a phrase to unscramble.

Which  took us to an ice-cream place next to a huge park. Everyone got to pick their own ice cream, including Hailey since they also had dairy free options.

After ice cream and spending some time at the park, we all went back to the rental home and relaxed a bit. You kids attempted to cool the hot tub down with ice cubes and fresh water. After about an hour the tub was finally cool enough and you all jumped in to play. We had tacos for dinner and shortly, everyone went to bed.
The next morning, we all woke up, had breakfast and you all were given the next set of clues that would reveal the first pit-stop of the day: The San Antonio Zoo.
It was kind of a disappointing day, many of the animals were sleeping in their cage and so we didn't get to see them. But we saw a fair share of animals and you kids even got to go into Lory landing to feed the birds.

After the zoo, we took a trip on the zoo train. It was neat to see how big Brackenridge park really was. I think you kids loved waving to the people that we passed along the way.

After the train ride, we went to the Witte museum. It was very different from what I remembered, but it was still an ok experience for you guys.

After a few hours at the Witte museum, we headed towards our final destination: The Magic Time machine. We were so lucky that the other mom thought to call ahead of time to make reservations and they just so happen to take reservations for parties of 8 or more over spring break. When we arrived, there was a huge line that wrapped around the front of the restaurant, and I kind of felt guilty as we walked right in.
The magic time machine is a themed restaurant, where the waitstaff are in character. They also have magic themed foods and drinks that are fun. Everyone got a magic potion that had "smoke" coming out of it.

We thought the menu had a typo when it said "Pizza on fries" but Nathan literally got a pizza on fries.
Mirabel (from the movie Encanto) was our waitress. She was great to crack jokes and was super entertaining.

Our Gang

So, we drove home Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, you three and I started on our trek to Dallas to visit Ama and Auntie Momo. Well, an hour into the trip, Hannah projectile vomits in the car, so we had to stop at a gas station to get everything cleaned up.

At Dallas, I was busy helping Ama take care of some business and you guys got to spend some time with Auntie Momo. She got you guys this really cool game where you can turn a drawing into a video game. You all spent several hours designing and drawing games.

We had so much good food in Dallas. We had sushi, chinese BBQ, dim sum, spaghetti soup, and some Taiwanese food. Auntie Momo even took you guys one morning to a vegan cinnamon roll place and let you guys create your own cinnamon roll!

We also went bowling at the same bowling alley that I used to go to when I was in high school. We got to go to the VIP section, which apparently I had no idea even existed.

This was the girls' first game of real bowling. Hannah quickly realized that this was nothing like wii bowling!

We also had to stop by and get some bubble tea. Plano has so many yummy asian shops that it was truly a culinary adventure.

We are back to our routine and so hopefully it won't be over a month before I make my next post. Things are good in the Havlir house.

Until next time,

Love,

Mommy
