Celebrating Life, Love, and Food Allergies

Dear Kids,
These past few days have been quite eventful. Let's start off with where we left off last post. Hannah participated in the school's trike-a-thon, benefiting St. Jude research. You zoomed around so fast and more than a few times you almost gave your teacher a scare when you came this close to hitting a pillar.
Hailey, I think I can start to be a little more relaxed about what you put in your mouth these days. You are getting quite good at discerning things that are yummy and things that are not.
Which means, you now get to play marble run and pom poms, which are a lot of fun for kids your age. Sure you may have put a marble or a pom pom in your mouth at some point, but you quickly realized their lack of flavor and spit them out real quick. You seem to do that with cheerios too...you've tasted the good stuff and now cheerios are just not good enough for you anymore.
We celebrated a birthday at the park last weekend and we really enjoyed our time outside. In fact, the weather has been so nice lately (when it is not raining) that we've tried to spend as much time outside as the mosquitoes would let us.

On Saturday, National Elite Gymnastics had their 30th birthday celebration and they had a great party set up everyone. There were bouncy houses, free pizza, gelato, snow cones, and cake. You guys had a lot of fun. We really love NEG. The staff is simply amazing.

You guys saw one of your coaches from last year and had to say "Hi."
Then that evening, we had a wedding party to attend. I kind of told Hannah it was like a ball because no kids were invited to the last wedding reception that we attended and Hannah, you were so excited to be able to go to the ball. Even though there was no dancing, the chicken strips, mashed sweet potatoes and twinkly lights made up for it.
Our best attempt at a family picture these days.

On Sunday, we had dinner at one of our favorite Indian restaurants. We ordered Korma, which is a creamy curry with ground pistachios, cashews, and almonds. The kids ordered Tikka Masala, which is a tomato based curry. Hailey sampled both and loved both...until she got a rash around her mouth. 10 minutes later, her face was slightly swollen and she had some welts around her eyes. We quickly drove home and administered some Benedryl and then a few minutes, you were back to your normal self. This picture was taken about 5-10 minutes after the medicine and you can still see a few little spots. So in short, we think you may have a tree nut allergy (considering you like tomatoes and have eaten them without a problem). Maybe you'll outgrow this one, but if not, we'll have to be extra careful with all sorts of nuts now.
It's been raining a lot these days. I think in the since the last post, we have received almost 5 inches of rain. It's been rainy at some point of the day for the last few days. I think today was the first day that it didn't rain.
Hailey, you are understanding the function of things these days. I find you trying to put lids on things, open containers, put hats on, and other tricks like that. You are cruising around, but you really have no motivation to stand unless there is something interesting on the table. You also have no interest in climbing the stairs.

Hannah really wanted to decorate the house for Halloween, so we picked up some fake spider webs and attached spiders yesterday. Afterwards we went on a family bike/skate ride around the neighborhood.
Nathan looks like such a big boy in this pic!
And finally, I end with these 2 pictures. Hailey absolutely adores Nathan. You have never seemed to push him away or become annoyed with him. With Hannah, you are not as nice or patient with her. I don't know if she tries to hard or still doesn't understand the concept of personal space, but you often will hurt her feelings when you don't do what she wants you to do.

See the sour face?
Well, we've got another exciting week lined up. Nathan's got a field trip and grandparents are visiting next weekend!

Until next week,
Love,
Mommy
